Introducing Terri

Terri Buysse is looking off to the right with a warm smile. Her dark hair is pulled back, she wears glasses and earrings. She is standing in front of a group of people who are blurred in the background.

Terri Buysse, Ph.D. PMH-C is one of the therapists at the Terrace View Counseling Collaborative. She shared a little bit about herself here…

Tell us a little bit about how you got into this field.

I've always had a passion for supporting children and for those who love and care for them. After I became a parent myself, I decided that helping caregivers with the perinatal period and with parenting (and the trauma that interferes with all of this) was what I wanted to focus on for the rest of my professional career.

What keeps you in this work?

The relationships that I develop with clients and colleagues, and seeing the suffering that my clients carry begin to subside. I also love to learn new things. I find the brain's capacity for coping and adaptation amazing.

I work really hard to give my clients choices and options—and not to just give lip service to this idea. I help my clients to re-find trust in their own voices and bodies.
— Terri Buysse, PhD PMH-C

Who do you best work with?

I specialize in perinatal, parenting and trauma. My ideal client is someone who is suffering in one or more of these ways and who is willing to show up to do the hard work of healing.

What made you decide to be part of the Terrace View Counseling Collaborative?

I was looking for professional community to reduce professional isolation and to enhance my work and ability to share and receive resources for myself and my clients.

What’s something bringing you joy these days?

I am enjoying weightlifting currently (to name one thing).

Are there parts of your identity that you want to share with folks?

My pronouns are she/her/hers. I am white and cisgender. I am Jewish convert. I have close family members who are part of the LGTBQ+ community. I have learned much from them.

What’s one of your favorite local businesses?

Yeh Yeh's in Lynnwood (amazing Vietnamese sandwiches)
