Introducing Monica

Monica Edenholm smiles and stands on the rocky bank of a river with green and yellow trees out of focus in the background. Monica is smiling and wears a white cardigan over a dark top and jeans.

Monica Edenholm, LMFTA, PA-C (she/her) is one of the therapists at the Terrace View Counseling Collaborative. She shares a little bit about herself here…

How did you get into this field?

I worked for 20 years as a medical provider. I see both the benefits and limitations of the medical model and Western medicine. I chose to do therapy because I still wanted to take care of people, hear their stories and help.

What keeps you in this work?

People, community, connection, hope for the future.

I will always offer a warm, empathic listening space and you will know I authentically care about you and whatever you are facing. I am not afraid to laugh or cry with you in your journey. I use humor and kindness through all of my sessions.

Who do you work best with?

I honestly love working with couples, families and individuals. I especially like working with couples or individuals in crisis and with blended families.

What made you decide to be part of the Terrace View Counseling Collaborative?

I wanted to work with other clinicians who are of the same mindset to provide a space where every person was welcomed, especially populations who are marginalized in our society. I also wanted to be part of a community. I know that being a clinician can be a lonely place. I think it is essential to be able to learn and lean on others. I feel very fortunate to have an amazing group of therapists, in all stages of life and career, as my community.

What’s something bringing you joy these days?

I find joy in both the big and small things in the world. Some of the things I find the most joy in right now: birds and their songs, the sound of laughter—especially the rolling on the floor kind, colors in nature, seeing love in unexpected places, finding connections to others.

Are there parts of your identity that you want to share with folks?

I identify as a cisgender female. I am Hispanic/Latina & Swedish. I have a blended family with 4 kids and a wife. I grew up Catholic. I have ADHD, diagnosed as an adult and 3 out of my 4 kids have ADHD. I know the stress it can cause the whole system.

What’s one of your favorite local businesses?

THE SHOP by DBD, small gift store in the Town Center at Lake Forest Park
